The Great Flood
5/27/23 Saturday afternoon I ventured over to the duck pond and the surrounding fields and streets to shoot photos of the aftermath of several days of pouring rain. Friday night into Saturday morning was a massive heavy downpour of rain and high wind speeds leaving the streets and pond flooded into the adjacent fields. I used my Canon 6D Mark II with the 50mm, 75-300mm, and the 500-1000mm lenses for this as well as my iPhone X for a couple close up candid shots. I captured images of ducks, birds, turtles, fish, and more. It was a good test of my skills and it was great to wear some of my lens pouches that I did a review on for the YouTube channel rather than carry my camera bag all day wading through water.

Enjoy!

Shot with my iPhone X, I have two of my Tycka Lens Pouches, my shoulder strap, monopod, and my Canon 6D Mark II. Ready for an adventure! |
For this shoot today I immediately wanted to try shooting from angles and perspectives I don't usually consider. This began with some of the twigs and branches on the ground. |
The duck pond is in the back right corner of the photo behind the large tree. These 3 adjacent fields were full of water and people were fishing. Ducks and fish were freely swimming around all this newfound real estate. |
Several streets were closed down due to flooding. More on this particular street later! |
These ducks were super friendly and not really afraid to get close to me. I really admire that purple feather with white trim that's tucked away. |
Usually when I get a photo of a crow, it's hard to pickup all of the colors. They often just appear as a black blob with a yellow eye. It was refreshing to catch one up close and pick up those dark navy tones. |
Probably one of my best images of a crow. Really picked up the navy toned feathers, the fanned tail-feathers, and a clear crisp image. A raven would often have longer middle feathers in the tail. |
I don't know guys, it says no swimming. This sign is normally something you can walk up to but today it was surrounded by water. |
No one is allowed onto this rocky and grassy shore. Now it is completely submerged as is the street beyond the fence in the background! |
Mallard Duck really fighting that current. |
This crow was very photogenic. |
These ducks were really friendly around me. This was their reaction to a yappy little dog nearby. More on that later! |
Self cleaning routine. |
I spotted this one with my 500-1000mm Lens! I think this one noticed me! |
These turtles were hanging out on the fountain/lights in the middle of the pond. |
This is from a large tree that's completely surrounded by water. |
This little friend was napping by the sidewalk as I walked by. |
It's funny to see little birds hanging out near these giant ducks. |
These fellas just walked right up to me. I didn't have any food! |
Wind picked up these waves quite a bit! |
It says no swimming! |
This bench, lamp post, trash can, and viewing stand were flooded. Probably not the place to sit right now. |
Wider shot of above. |
It was quite the cloudy day. |
iPhone X. At this point I went home to swap out Work Boots for Waders. |
A couple ducks by the shore. |
The tree that's in the water. |
Rose! |
That's a me! |
Back to my Canon Camera as I explore this end of the pond. |
I love these little waves in the flooded street! It was very windy! |
The bridge that ironically slopes downward was totally flooded. Perhaps an engineering mistake? |
I walked around to the flooded street. |
I avoided the bridge since I would be in knee deep water or higher. My wading boots wouldn't help much. This area usually isn't flooded this far back. Perhaps this ramp and rails should have been an actual bridge that slopes over rather than downward. |
The sunken sidwalk! |
Halfway down the flooded sidewalk I found that my wading boots had a tear in them! Disappointed! |
Usually the rocks on the other side of the fence slope downward to the water. Now the water covered all the rocks! |
The sidewalk and streets were flooded. |
I enjoy the leading lines and the lamp posts. Definitely not my kind of angle. |
The flooded street beyond the sidewalk. |
Just above the ankle! |
Interesting perspective. |
Lamp post |
I don't usually take photos of my shoes from my perspective. So here's to trying new things! |
This street was flooded and fish were crossing the street! No trucks though! |
The shore you're not supposed to be on has several trees that were partially underwater. |
A glance back at the street that was flooded. |
The flooded sidewalk I just trekked down. |
Ducks swimming in one of the nearby fields. |
Fish! |
Tall grass in one of the two overflowed fields separated by a flooded road. |
A golf ball floating down the street. |
Two drifters off to see the world. |
There's such a lot of world to see. |
This is probably my favorite photo of the day. It was a cloudy day but the sun finally shined a little just in time for the golden hour! |
Fish swam across the street and down this stream into this field. |
There's also a little tunnel under the street for the fish to swim from the pond to this field. It was funny seeing the fish opt to swim across the street instead! |
